The SAACI year-end function, held at The Barn on Eaton Farm in Sun Valley, Midrand, on November 22, saw major attendance from across the industry. Taking on a more unconventional, casual format, the event provided an afternoon of relaxation and entertainment, with a country and western singer serenading guests who ate and drank to their hearts’ content.

Not forgetting formalities, the afternoon was also an opportunity to reflect on SAACI’s notable achievements during 2018. Johannesburg branch chair Lorin Bowen addressed guests ahead of lunch and highlighted some of SAACI’s wins this year:

  • February – SAACI Johannesburg hosts its very first Meetings Africa cocktail, where all members and guests from across South Africa were in attendance.
  • April – SAACI Johannesburg holds joint AGM with Tshwane at a new member venue – The Canvas Conference Centre at the Riversands Incubation Hub.
  • June – A fun-filled afternoon is hosted at Constitution Hill for SAACI Johannesburg members, with an enlightening tour of Constitution Hill and the Constitution Courts followed by a quiz.
  • July – SAACI’s National Conference is held at Misty Hills, where SAACI Johannesburg’s very own Moses Gontai is awarded the SAACI Young Achiever Award.

Reminding everyone of the significance of having an association like SAACI to support and grow the events industry, Lorin read the SAACI manifesto: “We are a professional association that promotes sustainability within the business events industry in Southern Africa. We facilitate an enabling environment for learning, growth and collaboration. Our goal is to be the recognised professional association of the business events industry of Southern Africa. The focus areas that will feed into the three strategic goals are communication, networking and learning.”

The afternoon proved to be an inspiring, fun and engaging event for all in attendance, with a lucky draw and lovely prizes and giveaways for some of the winning contenders.
