Women in MICE Mentorship and Development Initiative

Project Plan Overview

Women are the nurturers and caregivers of our world and within the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) space these traits are especially important.

During the fifth annual Top 40 Women in MICE celebration in 2018, 3S Media, through its Women in MICE and Meetings brands, reiterated our commitment to deepening, refining and growing the industry. Together with the South Africa National Convention Bureau (SANCB), we launched an ongoing initiative that aims to foster greater mentorship amongst women within the area of MICE by tracking their stories and celebrating the ways in which they are impacting their colleagues, staff and affiliates. In doing so, Meetings and 3S Media, through its brands and platforms, aims to promote giving back to the industry.

Under the Women in MICE Mentorship and Development Initiative, organisations or individuals who provide existing programmes in the area of mentorship in MICE, or who are keen on mentoring those in need of guidance, are able to opt-in to provide the necessary level of input and direction required – whether it is through hands-on experience or exposure to the industry or help understanding the ins-and-outs of the meetings space. This will ensure valuable and practical knowledge transfer that can then benefit the individual and be applied going forward.

Together with the support of the SANCB, we will continue to develop an online repository of articles and resources to bolster the initiative, and we welcome and encourage the involvement and participation by all areas of the events industry to further drive this.

Women in the Workplace 2018

Companies report that they are highly committed to gender diversity. But that commitment has not translated into meaningful progress. That’s what was found in Women in the Workplace 2018, a study conducted by McKinsey in partnership with LeanIn.Org that probes the issues, drawing on data from 279 companies employing more than 13 million people, as well as on a survey of over 64,000 employees and a series of qualitative interviews.
